SAN ANGELO – Drought conditions continue to intensify across West Texas with no rain in the forecast Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, the drought is spreading and becoming more intense the longer the area goes without rainfall.
In a social media post, the NWS shared, "We like to keep you in the know – even if the news isn’t great. Even though we know you probably don’t want to, let’s take a quick look at the drought. Spoiler alert – It hasn’t gotten better. In fact, over the past 60 days, a good portion of the area has seen 25% of normal precipitation. What does that mean? Well if you take the normal amount of precipitation that is expected in those 60 days, we saw less than 25% of that. In San Angelo, we’ve seen 0.98 inches of precipitation this year whereas our expected total is over 4 inches. This is a large reason as to why fire weather concerns have been so prevalent this year. With everything being so dry and our notorious West Texas wind whipping around, until we can get some good soaking rain, fire weather will remain a major concern."
