SAN ANGELO – San Angelo Rodeo crowd favorite and second in the standings in Saddle Bronc Rusty Wright suffered a gruesome injury in Nevada on Thursday and is likely out for the season.
Five-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier Rusty Wright will be out indefinitely after suffering multiple breaks in his right leg at the Clark County Fair & Rodeo in Logandale, Nev., April 7.
Wright told ProRodeo.com he broke his ankle and suffered a spiral fracture to his tibia. In addition to those breaks, he also broke his fibula below the knee and just above his ankle. The injury occurred after his 83-point ride on Bar T Rodeo's Hell Boy.
He underwent surgery on Friday morning in Las Vegas. Wright said he believes the injury will cause him to miss the remainder of the ProRodeo season but didn't rule out a possible return.
The injury comes on the heels of Wright’s 85.5 point ride in last Saturday’s performance of the San Angelo Rodeo that put him in second place in saddle bronc riding behind his uncle Spencer Wright.
