SAN ANGELO – A combination of very low humidity and high winds across dry West Texas has prompted the National Weather Service to issue an extreme wildfire danger Red Flag Warning for Tuesday afternoon.
According to meteorologists with the San Angelo National Weather Service, west winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph and relative humidity values at 8 percent will combine with extremely dry fuels creating very dangerous wildfire conditions Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Flag Warning is in effect from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the Concho Valley, Big Country and Heartland. A Red Flag Warning means extreme wildfire conditions will occur and any wildfire that ignites will spread very rapidly.
All outdoor burning is highly discouraged and any activity that could generate a spark outdoors such as welding is also not recommended Tuesday afternoon.
Tom Green County and most affected counties remain under a burn ban as the drought of 2022 continues to intensify.
