Fire Danger Statement Issued for the Concho Valley as the Drought Intensifies

SAN ANGELO – Fast moving thunderstorms Tuesday night across West Texas contained lots of lightning, strong winds and some hail but very little actual rainfall so the National Weather Service has issued a Fire Danger Statement for all of the Concho Valley.

The Fire Danger Statement is in effect all day Wednesday.  Elevated to near critical fire weather conditions exist today because dry is combining with gusty northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph gusting to 35 mph with higher winds in the southern counties of the Concho Valley.

Any wildfire that ignites has the potential to rapidly burn out of control.

Extreme wildfire danger conditions will persist through the weekend across West Central Texas as the drought continues.

The NWS recorded .5 inches of rain at San Angelo Regional Airport Tuesday.  That puts the total rainfall in 2022 at .97 inches which is 2.53 inches below normal.

There is another slight chance for thunderstorms across the region by Monday.
