NWS: Dangerous Fire Weather Conditions Persist Through the Weekend

SAN ANGELO – Extremely dangerous wildfire weather conditions will persist across West Texas through the weekend after fires devastated several communities prompting a Disaster Declaration from Gov. Abbott Friday.

According to meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, elevated fire weather conditions will exist Saturday afternoon across the Concho Valley as dry conditions will combine with gusty south winds.

On Sunday, the NWS has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Sunday afternoon for the entire Concho Valley as South winds of 15 to 25 mph will gust to over 35 mph and combine with low humidity around 12 percent with extremely dry fuels to create conditions favorable to wildfires like the ones which occurred during the week.

Anyone participating in any kind of outdoor burning is putting people, property, animals and home in jeopardy.  Don't use any type of flame outdoors this weekend.

The NWS may upgrade the Fire Weather Watch to a Red Flag Warning if conditions deteriorate any further.

On Monday there is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms with the passage of a dry line.

This is a serious weather situation.
