SAN ANTONIO, TX- A basketball player with Dallas Kimball High School was arrested after shooting a classmate in an accidental shooting.
Kyron Henderson, 18, was arrested Wednesday night on two felony gun charges after a gun in his bag went off and hit a student trainer in the ankle. The team was going to dinner after practicing for the Class 5A state semifinal against Beaumont United.
The student that was shot was out of surgery and is currently home in Dallas.
Dallas ISD superintendent Michael Hinojosa said, “Only thing I can say to that family is we apologize. The irony is that she’s a student trainer who was volunteering her time on an outstanding basketball team to provide her service to this team and she gets injured.”
The UIL has allowed Dallas Kimball to compete in the state tournament due to the swift actions of the school district and the removal of Henderson from the basketball team.
Henderson, who committed to play football at West Texas A&M, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm on school premises.
