Concho Valley Christmas Eve Forecast Includes Wildfire & High Wind Warnings

SAN ANGELO – The Christmas Eve weather forecast calls for high winds and low humidities across West Central Texas increasing the possibility of dangerous wildfires and damage from high winds.

According to meteorologists with the National Weather Service in San Angelo, a Red Flag Warning is in effect for the Big Country and the northern Concho Valley Christmas Eve from noon to 6 p.m.  A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are occurring or will occur shortly.  A combination of strong winds, low humidity and dry fuels will increase the chances of wildfires spreading across the region.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Big Country.  A Wind Advisory means strong winds of 30 to 39 mph gusting up to 45 mph will occur.  Winds that strong can down tree limbs and power lines and make driving high profile vehicles difficult.

Temperatures Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will rise to the mid to upper 80s region wide before dropping to seasonal normals by Monday.

Any wildfires that do develop could be difficult to control under these weather conditions.

This is a serious weather situation.
