Disturbed San Angelo Man Indicted for Gratifying Himself in Front of a Sleeping Minor

SAN ANGELO, TX- A San Angelo man has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for pleasuring and exposing himself next to a sleeping child.

On April 30, 2021, the victim’s mother contacted the Tom Green County Sheriff Office about an incident and several others that occurred at her residence.

According to the mother of the victim, about 3 months before the sheriff’s office was contacted, she woke up about 4:00 a.m., she observed Alfredo Melendez coming out of the child victim’s bedroom naked.

When Melendez was confronted about this, he stated he got confused and didn’t mean to go into the child’s bedroom. The mother went into the child’s bedroom, woke the child up, and took the child into her bedroom.

The victim’s mother brought up the previously stated incident on April 29, 2021, after Melendez was observed on surveillance camera footage in the child victim’s bedroom and wearing the child’s clothing while inside the residence by himself.

After a verbal argument, Melendez admitted that the night he was caught exiting the child’s bedroom, he had been pleasuring himself as the victim slept.

During an interview with investigators, Melendez admitted to exposing his genitals for the act of sexual gratification while in the presence of the victim as the child slept in the bedroom.

A warrant was issued, and Melendez was arrested on August 18, 2021, for indecency with a child and is currently an inmate at the Tom Green County Detention Facility. Melendez has a bond $50,000.00 bond and has been ordered to not have contact with the victim.

Melendez faces a 3rd degree felony charge that come with a fine of up to $10,000.00 and up to 10 years in prison.
