Odessa Man Sentenced to Decades In Prison After Fatal Shooting

ODESSA, TX –– One of the suspects connected to a 2020 murder has been sentenced to five decades in prison.

Back in January of 2020, Johnathen Payen Sanchez and Johnny Bryan Hernandez were charged in connection to the shooting of two teenage victims. While both victims were alive when officers arrived at the scene, one of the victims died at the hospital.

As a result, Sanchez and Hernandez were both charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Earlier this week, an Ector County jury found Hernandez guilty of both charges.

During the punishment phase of the trial, the jury sentenced Hernandez to 50 years for murder and 20 years for aggravated assault.

STUPID, STUPID, STUPID! He looks to be about 20, killed a teenager and damaged that kid's family for life. Who knows what condition the other teenager is in. This boy will most likely die in prison and his own family is damaged for life and for what, to look tough to his friends, to teach a teenager some kind of lesson, because some sort of dumbass code he supposedly lives by??? Do these young thugs use a gun because they are afraid of an old fashion fist fight? STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!
