SAN ANGELO – Some San Angeloans became very concerned about black smoke billowing near the city across the sky Tuesday afternoon prompting calls to emergency responders and the media.
Don't be alarmed by all the smoke coming from the San Angelo State Park; it is a controlled burn.
Tuesday, December 7, 2021, the Texas Forest Service is performing a controlled burn in the San Angelo State Park close the O.C. Fischer Dam.

The area being burned is a small portion of the park located along the dam. Texas Forest Service Crews are conducting the controlled burn using tried and true safe practices.
On a related note, Tom Green County Commissioners Tuesday reinstalled a ban on all outdoor burning beginning Friday morning. The lack of rainfall along with high winds and low humidities prompted the 90 day ban on outdoor burning.
The County Judge can lift the burn ban at any time if sufficient rain falls across the county.
Controlled burns or prescribed burns are not covered by the burn ban.
