SAN ANGELO, TX ‚ A very active structure fire enveloped a residence in the 2400 block of W. Harris Ave. Sunday night just before 9 p.m.
Flames were shooting upward following a report of a loud explosion. On the scene were Engine 2, Engine 5, and Ladder 7. Smoke was seen rising high into the air from the house fire.
Over the radio, firefighters were informed that the fire may be arson and there was a strong smell of gas upon arrival. Firefighters were also warned of a possible hot air balloon being stored on the property, but that report was discounted later.
At the scene, firefighters attacked the flames from the air via Ladder 7.
The flames were put out by 9:50 p.m. San Angelo Police Lt. Craig Thomason said officials believe the house was empty at the time of the outbreak of the fire that fully engulfed the structure. No injuries were reported. The San Angelo Fire Marshal is investigating and Thomason said more details will be released tomorrow.
Our reporter at the scene witnessed one ambulance on scene. The home appears to be a rental house at 2408 W. Harris Ave. behind the former Power Systems on Sherwood Way.
