LUBBOCK, TX — An affair involving the current husband of a Texas district judge ended with a shooting of Lubbock man.

The victim in the shooting has been identified as Chad Read, of Lubbock. The shooter has been identified as William “Kyle” Carruth.
So far no arrests have been made in the shooting.
The attorney for the wife of the deceased released the following statement:
Jennifer Read, the widow of Chad Read, has filed a Petition today seeking to take custody of Chad Read’s children from their mother, Christina Read. Because the new Lubbock Public Access System makes this information available to the public, and the likelihood of the information contained in her Petition and Affidavit being obtained by the media, she has decided that it is best to simply release the information directly instead of waiting for it to be discovered.
The decision to take this step has not been easy, and she respectfully declines any requests for interviews at this time. There has been a lot of speculation in the media, and on social media, regarding the events of November 5, 2021. Rather than restating what is already stated in her Petition, and Affidavit attached thereto, Jennifer Read is releasing the video of Kyle Carruth’s shooting of her husband and allowing the video and Affidavit to speak for themselves.
The victim’s family is claiming bias due to Carruth’s current status with his wife, Judge Anna-Marie Carruth. The two are currently getting a divorce. Kyle Carruth is currently in a relationship with Read’s wife. The shooting occurred while Read was attempting to pick up his children.
The Lubbock County district attorney’s office has turned the case over to the attorney general’s office.

The video from the Nov. 5 encounter shows gun-wielding Kyle Carruth opening fire on Chad Read after they faced off. Carruth is married to Ann-Marie Carruth, the judge for the 72nd District Court in the counties of Lubbock and Crosby and that Chad had threatened to expose the affair between Kyle and Christina. Kyle stepped back a few feet from Chad and fired two shots at him, causing the father to slump onto the front porch. Kyle swung around to face Jennifer, who was still taking video. She said: “I have it on video, Kyle.” “I told all of y’all to leave,” Kyle then said, telling Jennifer that Chad’s son was not at the house. “None of y’all should be here, I asked you leave. I did everything. I did not want to do any of this.” Chad’s widow, Jennifer Read, said in a statement that included video footage of the moment he was shot and killed that Christina and Carruth both engaged “in a conspiracy to assault and/or murder Chad that day.” Jennifer Read also claimed that Chad had previously threatened to expose an affair involving his ex and Carruth.
