Christoval Woman Allegedly Steals Over $100K from Local Business

SAN ANGELO, TX – A Christoval woman was arrested for stealing just over $103,000.00 from the small, local business, Tres Amigos Convenience Store.

On October 22, 2021, San Angelo police met with the accountant controller for Tres Amigos Convenience Store’s main office, located at 1194 Templin Road in San Angelo. The accountant reported that Marlandy Danay Luna, a former employee, did not make store deposits for the store located in Christoval. Luna had only made sporadic deposits beginning on June 28th, 2021.

The accountant reported the errors were noticed and the owner of Tres Amigos Convenience Stores went out to Christoval to confront Luna and terminate her. According to the accountant, Luna admitted to stealing from the store to the company’s owner.

On November 4th, 2021, investigators met with the district manager and company owner at the main office.  The investigator was given a ledger for deposits for the Christoval location and was informed that Luna was the store manager. Luna was required to make all the daily deposits. The accountant found irregularities and errors regarding deposits and ended up showing just over $100,000.00 was missing.

When the company owner was informed he went to the store and had a meeting with the district manager and Luna in the store’s office. The owner confronted Luna who stated, “I made bad decisions,” and when asked what she did with the money stated, “I didn’t realize it was that much”.

Luna was then fired and the company owner asked the district manager to search the store’s office thoroughly for any evidence. After searching the office, several made out deposit slips by Luna along with $516.70 in cash and a few costumer checks were found in the back of a filing cabinet drawer inside the office. The company owner reported to investigators the discovered deposit slips were the missing cash from the store totaling $103,497.43.

On November 5th, 2021, Luna went to the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office where she was interviewed by the investigator.  After being read and waiving her Miranda Rights, she agreed to speak with the investigator.

In this interview, Luna admitted to taking cash from the Tres Amigos Convenience Store located in Christoval. Luna stated she was not aware she had stolen so much and admitted that she started taking money around the beginning of summer 2020. Luna admitted taking cash from the daily deposits that she was supposed to make for the store and cover it from the next day’s deposit.

Luna stated it got out of hand and she eventually got behind covering the deposits. The investigator showed Luna copies of the found deposit slips from the store office and Luna admitted she made out the deposit slips which were supposed to be deposited. Luna admitted the cash was what was owed to the store.

Marlandy Danay Luna was arrested on November 19th, 2021 and was released the same day on $35,000.00 bond.
