SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo ISD Elementary school was put on high alert Monday morning due to an incident that occurred at a house just west of the campus.
According to the San Angelo ISD Executive Director of Communications Whitney Wood, on Nov. 8 at around 8:30 a.m., Alta Loma Elementary was secured due to an incident that occurred just outside of the school.
"This morning Alta Loma Elementary secured the building out of an abundance of caution due to increased law enforcement activity in the surrounding neighborhood," stated Wood.
Reporters on scene confirm that just out side of the elementary, on the 1700 block of Hassle, multiple SAPD units were seen inside and around a home. The SAPD's Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit were at the residence as well. Police left the area around 9:45 a.m.
"San Angelo Police Department later cleared the area, and San Angelo ISD and Alta Loma Elementary lifted the precautionary secure the building measures and returned to all normal activities and procedures," continued Wood's statement. "Securing the building means that the school will run normal activities, and is closed to outsiders or visitors as a precaution. Students and staff are safe. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. San Angelo ISD and Alta Loma Elementary appreciate the collaboration with law enforcement."
Just blocks away, at the intersection of Glenna and Loop 306, two SAPD units had stopped a light blue charger. Sources claim that these two incidents are related.
San Angelo LIVE! has reached out to the San Angelo Police Department but at this time the SAPD has not released a statement on the incident.
