Violent Suspect Steals San Angelo Police Cruiser & Crashes It

SAN ANGELO, TX – During a chase on Tuesday night, a San Angelo Police Officer's cruiser was stolen.

According to the San Angelo Police Department, on Nov. 3 at around 2 a.m., officers with the SAPD were dispatched to a residence on the 600 block of Macann in reference to a Domestic Disturbance.

Upon arrival, Officers located a male subject, later identified as Michael Rodriguez, 24, of San Angelo on the front porch of the residence. Officers went to make contact with Rodriguez and he proceeded to run through the residence and out the back door in an attempt to get away from officers.

An Officer was able to locate Rodriguez and attempted to apprehend him at the rear of the residence. During the course of the apprehension, the officer sustained an injury that resulted in Rodriguez being able to get away.

Rodriguez was then able to enter into a parked SAPD patrol unit and drive it away from the scene in an attempt to evade officers.

A slow speed pursuit ensued and the pursuit ultimately ended at a residence in the 1500blk of Woodruff after Rodriguez crashed the patrol unit into the side of a residence. Officers were then able to quickly take Rodriguez into custody. Rodriguez was transported to Shannon Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries for treatment.
