Howard College Celebrates 75th Anniversary

SAN ANGELO – On September 30th Howard College will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first-day classes were held on campus.

“Our communities have supported us from the beginning, and we would not be where we are today without their ongoing generosity and support,” said President Dr. Cheryl T. Sparks. “We always want to celebrate our successes, but we cannot do that without celebrating those who are a big part of our strong foundation.”

The day's celebrations will kick off at the San Angelo campus with a “Builders of San Angelo Workshop” dedication and recognition of the Nelson Davis “Building Futures” Scholarship at 10:00 a.m.

The next event will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Lamesa campus with the recognition of the Dr. Wayne Smith Memorial Scholarship.

At 3:30 p.m. the college will unveil new signage at the SouthWest College for the Deaf (SWCD) campus and recognize the McGary Regan Foundation and the Dom Bonura Memorial Scholarship.

The last event of the day will take place at the Big Spring campus in front of the Old Main Building to recognize the Big Spring Area Community Foundation and the Greg Henry New Horizons Scholarship at 4:30 p.m.

“This day is a key part of our history, and we felt like we needed to recognize it at each one of our campuses in honor of the support we have received from our communities over the last 75 years,” said President Dr. Cheryl T. Sparks. “Even though we have had to alter our plans for celebration due to the pandemic, we still wanted to recognize the importance of this day for our college and our students.”

During the evening, the college will be hosting an invitation-only 75th Anniversary Gala that will be available for everyone to watch via live stream.

The day's events will be held in person at each campus but will also be shared via Facebook Live on each campus's Facebook page so that anyone can participate virtually.

The events are made possible thanks to the generosity of the Delek US Holdings, Inc., Delek Fund for Hope of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
