BROWNWOOD, TX –– After a two-year battle with cancer, the City of Brownwood is mourning the loss of former Fire Chief Eddy Wood.
Chief Wood began his career in public service as a volunteer fireman at the age of seventeen.
After two years of serving as fire chief, Wood retired in 2019. At that time, Chief Wood stated he was resigning to move closer to family.
Wood is credited with "bringing many new ideas and practices to the Fire Department. The most prevalent was bringing a formalized Incident Command System to the organization."
"Brownwood Fire Department is mourning the loss of Chief Eddy Wood," said the department on social media. "Please keep Chief Wood and his family in your thoughts and prayers."
Wood's death will be classified as a Line of Duty Death -- which can be attributed to his decades serving as a firefighter.
The 46-year-old passed away on Saturday, September 25th.
