SAN ANGELO – On the heels of the Biden Administration's announcement that it is suing the State of Texas over the new pro-life bill, pro-abortion women's groups are planning marches and rallies around the country on Oct. 2 and a group in San Angelo has joined the fray.
Women's March San Angelo created a social media page on Sept. 3, 2021 and now has 645 members.
The social media group is private.
According to information on the social media page, it has 172 posts as of Friday morning.
According to the Texas Tribune, in a 5-4 decision last week, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed to stand Texas’ new ban on abortions once fetal cardiac activity is detected — which can occur as early as six weeks. The court did so without ruling whether it’s constitutional for Texas’ Senate Bill 8 to allow anyone to sue patients, providers, doctors or even Uber drivers who “aid and abet” someone getting an abortion past that threshold.
The U.S. Department of Justice sued Texas on Thursday in an effort to overturn the law and block its enforcement. The law’s construction has caused experts to be dubious about how the legal saga will play out in courts.
