Earthquake Strikes Midland Over Night

 

MIDLAND – Geologists are reporting the strongest earthquake in months struck the Midland area Monday night. 

According to information from the United States Geological Service (USGS), the 3.5 magnitude temblor struck ten miles north-northwest of the city of Midland.  

The earthquake is the strongest to hit in the Midland area since Dec. 31 when a 4.0 magnitude quake was reported north of Stanton.

The earthquake was the fourth in the last seven days, the 19th in the last 30 days and the 189th in and around Midland in the last 365 days, according to earthquaketrack.com. The same website shows 1,033 earthquakes in the past 365 days around the Pecos region. 

The quake was felt overnight in the area north and northwest of the tall city.   

There are no reports of damage or injuries at this time.
