SAN ANGELO – One of San Angelo's most visited locations is the Red Arroyo trail and the dog park located off the College Hills and Millbrook. Although the area is loved by many, some visitors would like a covered pavilion.
Thanks to a private donation, that need could be fulfilled as a donor has offered the City of San Angelo $75,000 to build a pavilion just outside the dog park.
According to the City Council's agenda for the Sep. 9 meeting, a private citizen approached the Parks and Recreation Department with the offer to donate $75,000 for the construction of a pavilion at the dog park.
"We took this matter to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on August 26, 2021," stated Carl White, Head of the City of San Angelo's Parks and Recreation's Department. "The Board recommended acceptance of the donation of $75,000 and the in-house construction of the pavilion. Staff supports this recommendation."
The donation will pay for materials while construction will be performed by City of San Angelo crews. If approved, the City's budget will include this donation and subsequent expenditures to construct the pavilion. Construction would follow next spring/summer after crews finish the replacement of playground equipment at Unidad Park.
If approved, the City will accept the $75,000 donation and place it in a fund 601 account for designated revenue. The construction project would be paid out of a fund 601 expenditure account. The annual maintenance for the pavilion for fiscal year 21-22 is estimated at $1,000 and the following years at $2,000.
The council will decide if the city will accept the donation at its regular meeting Sept. 9.
