Texas School District Delays Start of School Amid Covid Surge

GORMAN, TX – School Districts across Texas are kicking off the 2021 school year this week amid a coronavirus surge in the state.

Gorman ISD in Eastland County became the latest school district to delay the first day of school due to an increase of positive cases. Classes will now begin next Wednesday, August 25th.

"This decision was not made lightly or quickly, and it, was made with the best interest of all students, staff and parents in mind," said Superintendent Mike Winter. "I am disappointed that we will not be able to see our students for another week, but I do believe that this is the safest course of action to take."

Gorman ISD's announcement comes on the heels of Iraan-Sheffield ISD closing schools due to Covid until August 30. Two other east Texas schools have also closed for an outbreak.
