Officials to Provide Coronavirus Update Friday

SAN ANGELO, TX – The coronavirus Delta variant is spreading rapidly and has been confirmed by health officials in San Angelo.

The City of San Angelo's Public Information Office made the following post on Facebook on the morning of Jul. 23:

"The Delta variant of the coronavirus, known as B.1.617.2, is raising some concerns among health experts. Why? Because it seems to spread more easily. But there's good news too: So far, COVID-19 vaccines work well against this strain of the virus."

Tom Green County has seen a surge in daily coronavirus infections. Currently in San Angelo there are 264 active coronavirus infections. A month ago there were only 74.

In Tom Green County less than 40 percent of the population ages 12 and up have taken a COVID-19 vaccine. In Texas 60 percent of people are fully vaccinated.

Friday afternoon Mayor Brenda Gunter has scheduled a press conference to provide an update on the Covid-19 situation locally. San Angelo LIVE! will broadcast the conference starting at 2 p.m.
