Desperate Gunman Shoots 4 Police Officers in Rural West Texas

 

LEVELLAND, TX — Four Levelland police officers were shot and hospitalized in the small West Texas town Thursday afternoon. 

According to the Hockley County News Press, on Jul. 15, officers with the Levelland Police Department were dispatched to the 1100 block of 10th St. at around 2:30 p.m. 

Upon arrival they were met with gunfire from an unidentified male suspect. Four officers were shot during the incident and two of those officers are in the ICU. 

The suspect was first reported to have barricaded himself inside the residence. 

As of 5:15 p.m. Levelland Police say the situation is still ongoing. 

The Hockley County Emergency Management issued a nixle alert urging citizens to avoid the area stating “driving around aimlessly for curiosity hinders the police movement.”
