SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo man died on Sunday after being in the hospital for a stabbing that occurred on Juneteenth.
According to the San Angelo Police Department, on Jun. 19, officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to Shannon Medical Center for the report of stabbing victim.
When the officers arrived at the hospital they found that the stabbing had occurred at a local bar, the Penny Taphouse.
Following further investigation the police were able to determine that the man was stabbed in the parking lot of the bar.
The victim, Jason Garivay, 41, of San Angelo, died from his injuries a week later on Jun. 27.
SAPD did not announce if they had a suspect in custody at this time or if there was a person of interest.
This is the sixth murder in San Angelo during 2021.

UPDATE JUN 28 3:05 P.M.
Following the publishing of the story a number of family members reached out to San Angelo LIVE! to show concern about the story.
They claimed that their family member, Garivay, was in fact not stabbed. They claimed that they spoke to the detectives and that the story was a lie.
San Angelo LIVE! then got back in touch with the SAPD to set the story straight. When asked if the man was stabbed the SAPD PIO responded with the following statement.
"I do not know if Garivay was stabbed or not. The Officers were dispatched to SMC in reference to a stabbing victim. All I was told is that an assault occurred. I do not know if any weapons were involved. They are not releasing anything else at this time."
Erica Garivay, a family member of Jason, told San Angelo LIVE! that she knows for a fact that her family member was not stabbed. She did not detail what happened that night but insisted that the police department was not being truthful about the incident.
She claims that the assault is still under investigation.
