Long Vacant Pink House Takes on New Life

SAN ANGELO, TX – A local hair salon announced Monday that it will be moving into the historic "pink house" on College Hills Blvd. soon.

Mackenzie Howells, owner of the Silo Salon, confirmed, on Jun. 28, that the salon will be moving from their original location at 1401 W. Beauregard Ave. and into the historic "pink house" on the 3200 block of College Hills Blvd.

"Love to see all the interest in it," said Howells "I feel so blessed that I get to be the one to revamp it!"

The historic building was built in the 1980s. It was originally owned by Don and Carolyn Maynard and was referred to as the Maynard House. Most recently it has been Companion Animal Hospital. Throughout the years the house was sold on the promise that it was kept pink.

This wasn't the case in Howells deal so she decided to renovate the place by painting the building white. She will also be remodeling inside but has decided to keep the changes secret for now.

The salon is expected to open by September but there are hopes of opening sooner.

Howells is planning on having 13 stylists working at the salon. Also inside the salon it will have a boutique.

"I feel so blessed to be able to take this project on," said Howells. "All of it has been because of God and I am so proud to own a building in San Angelo. This is the best community around."

Howells says that her favorite feature of the building is the engraving of Matthew 7:7 in the cement out front. Matthew 7:7 reads: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
