SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo ISD students transitioning to middle school and high school participated in the new Middle School and High School Jump Start Programs this month at Glenn, Lincoln and Lone Star Middle School, and Central and Lake View High School. The goal of the programs is for incoming students to “jump start” their experience at the next level of their education in a fun and engaging manner so they feel prepared and welcomed as they advance from elementary or middle school. The Jump Start Programs were available at no cost at each middle school and high school campus through three sessions held in June.
“The jumpstart programs were a big hit at all of our secondary schools! Each campus welcomed around 50 incoming students each of the 3 weeks that the program was offered.” Said Dr. Candi Callas, Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction. “Our incoming students had such a great time learning how to be future middle and high school students and built relationships with their future teachers and principals. On the last day of each week, our students were sad to go, but very excited to begin this next step in their academic journey with SAISD!”
“Our Jump Start program was a great time for students to be able to learn the heart of Lincoln Middle School. We established a sense of community by acknowledging their elementary skills and offering them a sense of belonging as Lincoln Braves and Maidens.” Said Dennis Padilla, Assistant Principal at Lincoln Middle School. “Our teachers encouraged and empowered our students to have a growth mindset and track their progress in learning throughout the week. Students loved touring the school and feeling supported with an answer for their questions about procedures and expectations. Incoming student Jon said, “I actually like it here,” after being asked if he was ready for middle school. Elizabeth said, “I love this school!” as she was being picked up on her last day. The best part is we now have student leaders that are set up for success from the start.”
We look forward to helping your student successfully transition to the next level of their education with SAISD and welcoming them for the upcoming school year. Follow the San Angelo ISD Facebook, Twitter, and website, www.saisd.org, to stay up-to-date on San Angelo ISD.
