NWS: Heat Advisory Extended Through Friday

SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has extended the Heat Advisory through 8 p.m. Friday due to continuing high temperatures and high humidity.

According to the NWS, heat index values of 105 to 109 degrees are forecast Thursday and Friday for the Concho Valley and the Big Country.

Heat related illnesses will occur with heat index values that high.

A Heat Advisory means that dangerous hot weather conditions are occurring.  Officials recommend everyone drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, stay in an air conditioned room and check up on friends and neighbors.

Take extra precautions if you must be outside and reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or late evening hours if possible.

Make sure outdoor pets and livestock have plenty of water and shade.

The forecast calls for afternoon high temperatures to be 100 degrees or higher through Sunday.  The heat advisory could be extended or upgraded to an extreme heat warning if conditions warrant.

This is a serious situation.
