NWS: Scorching Heat Prompts Dangerous Weather Advisory

SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a Heat Advisory for the Concho Valley as triple digit heat is creating dangerous weather conditions.

The Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Heat index values from 105 to 109 degrees are expected in the Concho Valley and Big Country.

Hot temperatures combined with high humidity can cause heat related illnesses like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

A Heat Advisory means that hot weather conditions are expected or are occurring. Heat illnesses are possible.  Officials advise to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors and make sure pets have plenty of shade and water.

Take extra precautions if you must work outside.  Reschedule outdoor activities to the morning or evening hours if possible. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and seek immediate attention if those signs appear.

Never leave pets or children in a hot car, not even for a few minutes.

This is a serious weather situation that could become deadly.
