Albert the Alligator Facing Health Concerns

ABILENE, TX -- The Abilene Zoo resident alligator, Albert, is expected to undergo testing after veterinarians expressed health concerns.

According to the Abilene Zoo,  Albert has not been active and his appetite has been very low. 

Currently, Albert is considered to be one of the oldest living American Alligators in zoos in the U.S. Details about his past are relatively unknown -- leading to a lot of tall tails.

The Veterinary and Animal Care Team at the zoo will draw blood and perform a variety of medical tests next week.

“It is normal for reptiles to stop eating for a few days, even up to a week, but Albert has continued to display unusual behaviors for a prolonged period,” explained Animal Care Supervisor and reptile specialist Tony Baez. “What we have to decipher is if there is something wrong or if this behavior is due to Albert’s advanced age.”
