Angelo State University Classes Back to 100% Capacity This Fall

SAN ANGELO, TX – Angelo State announced Monday that the classes will be back to 100% capacity in person starting this fall.

Angelo State University announced, on Apr. 19, that they will be returning to full capacity in the fall. In an email sent out by the President of Angelo State, President Ronnie Hawkins, listed several factors for the campus to make this huge decision.

"I am confident that this is the correct decision and the right direction to take as a result of several factors," stated Pres. Hawkins in the email followed by the list below.

• The decreasing coronaivurs positivity rate and hospitalizations here in San Angelo and statewide.
• The low number of positive cases on the campus over an extended 45-day period.
• The increased vaccine availability and increased number of staff, faculty, and students who have taken/plan to take the vaccine.
• The lessons learned and experiences gained from working together as a team. 
• The positive indication of achieving "herd immunity" over the summer months.
• the positive teaming and partnership arrangement with Shannon Clinic, here in San Angelo.

The email continued by ensuring the Ram Fam that they will continued to monitor all guidance and information provided from the CDC and the local health experts in San Angelo. If things do go south Hawkins claims that they "will take the appropriate steps to change as well in order to make sure the health, safety, and welfare of the Ram family continues to be our top priority."

The current positivity rate in Tom Green County is 5.1 percent and there are currently only 64 active cases of COVID-19.

Other schools going full capacity in the fall will be Texas Tech and Texas State. School like the University of Texas and Texas A&M have yet to announce if they will go back to 100 percent. Texas A&M has announced that they will host football games at full capacity.
