SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo habitual criminal is scheduled to take a plea deal on Monday that would send him to prison until he nearly 60 years old.
According to court documents, on Apr. 12, Manuel Penner, 32, is scheduled to take a plea deal that would sentence him to 25 years in prison for stabbing a man at the Stripes on 19th and Armstrong st. in Oct. 2019.

On Oct. 3, 2019 officers with the San Angelo Police Department located a Hispanic male suffering from an apparent stab wound at the Stripes on 19th and Armstrong. Officers deployed a Department issued C-A-T Tourniquet to control the victim’s bleeding until San Angelo Fire Department Medics arrived.
The victim, a 33–year-old San Angelo resident, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The assault, which took place just outside the store’s front doors, was captured on surveillance video. The suspect, identified as Manuel Penner, fled the store’s parking lot prior to police arrival.
Penner was later located at a residence in the 4400 block of Travis Street and taken into custody without incident. The investigation revealed Penner and the victim are acquaintances with longstanding unresolved issues regarding an ex-girlfriend.
Penner's charges were increased due to him being a habitual criminal.

Failure to Appear Bailiff: Jim Coleman At 1:55 pm the Bailiff called the Defendant's name at the courthouse door. Defendant failed to answer in this cause. Bond forfeited - Alias Capias to issue. New Bail fixed in the sum of $70,000

Manuel Penner was arrested and placed back in the Tom Green County Jail.
