LOUISVILLE, KY -- Last Friday. Texas Roadhouse Inc. confirmed the passing of founder Kent Taylor. A few days later his family confirmed Kent committed suicide after suffering from COVID-19 symptoms.
According to a statement from the Taylor family, the CEO of the popular steak house had been suffering from tinnitus -- which causes ringing or buzzing in the ears.
"Kent battled and fought hard like the former track champion that he was, but the suffering that greatly intensified in recent days became unbearable," the statement read.
Taylor made headlines last year after he gave up his salary and bonus to ensure workers in his restaurant could remain employed. According to his family, Kent had committed to funding a study to help military members suffering from tinnitus.
“Kent leaves an unmatched legacy as a people-first leader, which is why he often said that Texas Roadhouse was a people company that just happened to serve steaks."
