Fort Hood Major General Reassigned to San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Following an investigation into the leadership in charge at Fort Hood, Maj. Gen. Scott L. Efflandt was removed as deputy commanding general of III Corps.

Efflandt was in charge of Fort Hood when Vanessa Guillen was brutally murdered and removed from the Army post in April.

Efflandt had originally been selected to assume command of the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss but the move was delayed once the investigation into the leadership and workplace culture began. The Major General was relieved of his command and now he has been reassigned to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

“Maj. Gen. Scott L. Efflandt will be reassigned as the special assistant to the commanding general of U.S. Army North," said Army Spokesperson Cynthia O. Smith. "This is a temporary reassignment pending the final outcome of the AR 15-6 investigation.”

According to the Guillen family, they requested to speak with Maj. Gen. Effland multiple times when Vanessa disappeared but were refused.

The Guillen Family released the following statement after the news became public.

"Here we have Scott Efflandt, he was the Major General of Fort Hood Army Base in Texas. He did nothing during Vanessa’s disappearance and murder, it was his duty to be updated with issues and programs on the military installation."

"He declined to talk to the Guillen Family several times, even though Vanessa’s Family asked with cries for a meeting. He did not do his duty as a man, as a human, and as a Major General. You cannot have people in the U.S. Army be in charge who could care less about their soldiers."

"The toxic climate at the Texas installation that was “permissive” of sexual assault and harassment. Under his command, the toxicity grew and he did nothing about it. He lacks of true leadership, respect, and morality for soldiers and families."

"He is now a special agent until the 4-Star General Murray investigation is completed, but he must be held accountable and dishonored. This is a disrespect for #VanessaGuillen, the Guillen Family, the public, survivors, and countless others who died due to an injustice in the armed forces."
