SAN ANGELO, TX -- The Valentine's Day Snowstorm broke records in San Angelo after a reported 10.1 inches of snow covered the area.
According to the National Weather Service, back in 1919, a total of 10 inches was recorded and for the subsequent 102 years remained the highest amount of snowfall in San Angelo's history. Sunday's snowfall beat the record by 0.1 inches, as measured at Mathis Field.
Monday is now the second coldest day in San Angelo's history with a freezing -1 degrees Fahrenheit. The lowest recorded temperature was back in 1989 when the temperature dropped to -4 degrees Fahrenheit.
In the coming days, a less severe cold front will move through the area and is expected to bring freezing rain or sleet.
According to the five-day forecast, Tuesday will bring more very cold temperatures and hazardous road conditions. The forecast for Wednesday is described as icy and a wintry mix may be possible. Thursday's temperatures will remain low and gradually increase throughout the week.
