SAN ANGELO, TX – Temperatures will remain well below freezing in the Concho Valley through late next week and a dangerous snow storm with white out conditions will reach San Angelo Sunday.
The blizzard like conditions will be deadly for pets left outside, burst pipes endanger unprotected livestock and could cause power outages across all of West Central Texas.
Roadways are already frozen over across much of West Texas including the Concho Valley and the City of San Angelo. Driving conditions will continue to deteriorate through early Monday.
National Weather Service meteorologists in San Angelo have issued a Winter Storm Warning for Sunday and Monday. Hazardous driving conditions will continue for days with freezing rain and sleet and even some snow Saturday. Temperatures will remain steady in the mid 20s through noon Sunday and then will drop to around 4 degrees Sunday night with heavy blowing snow. There is a 60% chance of snow Sunday afternoon and a 70% chance of heavy snow Sunday night. Wind chills will be near 15 degrees below zero.
Temperatures will range from 4 degrees Sunday night to 19 degrees for a high Monday then 4 degrees again Monday night before warming up to 31 degrees Tuesday afternoon.
The arctic cold blast with snow accumulations will last at least through Tuesday with temperatures staying well below freezing through Thursday.
This is a dangerous storm. The NWS says dangerous winter conditions with heavy snow, bitter wind chill values, and record cold temperatures will continue Sunday through Wednesday.
Travel will be very difficult with blowing snow reducing visibility to near zero and ice covered roadways.
Officials recommend keeping emergency supplies in vehicles like water, food, a flash light and a blanket. Motorists can call 5-1-1 for updates on road conditions anytime.
