Alec Richey, a 15-year-old 2nd Dan black belt, competed this past Friday and Saturday, Dec 5th and 6th, in the US National Qualifying Tournament in Houston.
Richey placed third in the nation in the middleweight (62 kg) sparring class.
He also competed under 8th Dan black belt Master Fabian Nunez during the tournament. Alec currently trains at Angelo Martial Arts.
The top three competitors in each division advance to represent the United States on TEAM USA, and will compete May 27-31, 2015 at the ITF World Championship tournament in Jesolo, Italy.
The world tournament is held every two years in a different country each time. Last year, 52 countries competed.
