SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo City Council and the City of San Angelo Economic Development Corporation will hold a joint meeting Tuesday to take a series of actions to bring a second airline carrier to the San Angelo Regional Airport.
According to the agenda for the joint meeting, the council and development corporation will provide incentives to bring Skywest Airlines to the city. Skywest has a hub at the Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
The deal includes a proposed $1.2 million in sales and use tax funds for Skywest which would allow for air service and a revenue guarantee agreement. The proposed agreement would also provide that the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce provide direct advertising support for the airline and would waive all rental and landing fees.
According to Skywest's website, the airline operates through partnerships with United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines carrying more than 43 million passengers in 2019. Headquartered in St. George, Utah, the fleet of nearly 450 aircraft connects passengers to 227 destinations throughout North America.
There is no information available at this time about how many flights per day to Houston they would fly or what type of aircraft and how many seats would be available.
The joint meeting of the San Angelo City Council and the COSADC is set for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the McNease Convention Center.
