Parks Department to Give Away Trees

Approximately 50 trees will be given away to the public on a first-come, first-served basis by the Parks and Recreation Department on Dec. 18.

The giveaway will occur from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at Parks headquarters at 1022 Veterans Memorial Drive (formerly River Drive).

Several varieties of trees are available, including bur oak, elm, desert willow and live oak. The trees are 10 feet tall and smaller. Parks officials said the trees should thrive if they are given proper care. The trees are considered “cull” trees that cannot be planted in public parks because their quality is degraded to some degree.
