SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of West Central Texas from midnight Wednesday to 6 p.m. Thursday.
As we have been reporting, a strong arctic cold front has moved through the area and a potent upper level storm system is moving across the region.
Heavy snow is expected with three to six inches accumulating region wide with up to nine inches expected in Irion, Sterling and Crockett counties.
Gusty North winds are also expected with gusts up to 40 mph. Freezing rain and sleet are also expected so ice could form on roadways all across West Central Texas especially in the Concho Valley.
Meteorologists say travel could be difficult to impossible across the region and the morning and evening commutes Thursday will be impacted.
There is a 90 percent chance of snow, freezing rain, sleet and rain Wednesday night with temperatures in the 20s and wind chill values in the upper teens.
On Thursday, there is a 100 percent chance of rain, freezing rain and snow. Forecasters believe it will all turn to snow Thursday afternoon with a high temperature around 32 degrees with wind chill values from 18 to 23 degrees.
Travel is discouraged on New Year's Eve.
There is a 50 percent chance of additional snow Thursday night with temperatures below freezing.
