Abilene Drivers Rack Up $100,000 In Unpaid Parking Tickets

ABILENE, TX – Being in the middle of a pandemic doesn't mean parking tickets can remain unpaid. In Abilene 475 residents have racked up $100,000 in unpaid tickets.

Back in early December, the city warned drivers who owed more than $1,000 in fines needed to pay off their debts or set up a payment plan by the 16th of this month.

If the drivers failed to do so, the City of Abilene would publish their names. It appears the drivers complied with the directive as no names were published.

According to City Manager Robert Hanna, the money from parking tickets goes to the city's general fund. The fund pays for roads, first responders, and COVID-19 vaccines.
