School District Ends Semester Early to Avoid Covid Spread

RANGER, TX -- Ranger Independent School District officials announced the district is ending its fall semester a couple of days early due to coronavirus.

According to Superintendent Mike Thompson, the decision to end the semester on Wednesday came after the district reported five new Covid-19 cases in the last week and a half.

"We regret the short notice, but feel this is in the best interest of the school community given the ever changing situation," said Thompson.

According to Thompson, about 10 percent of the district or 340 students and staff have tested positive for the virus or have had  "close contact" with positive cases.

On Tuesday, a  special education class and two first grade classes were sent home early.

Classes will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021.
