Taylor County Faces COVID Closures Amid High Hospitalizations

ABILENE, TX -- After Tom Green County narrowly avoided closures due to COVID-19 hospitalizations rates, our neighbors to the north are facing a similar situation.

On Sunday, Trauma Service Area D reported its fifth day over the 15 percent threshold, placing them on track for the restrictions outlined in Governor Abbott's Executive Order 32.

According to the data presented by the DSHS, there are currently 149 patients hospitalized in Area D. Of those patients, 127 of them are at Hendrick Medical Center.

Trauma Service Area D has zero ICU beds available.

By comparison Trauma Service Area K including San Angelo has been under the 15th percent threshold since December 3rd, with every day showing a consistent decrease.

Meanwhile, in Service Area J, which includes Midland and Odessa, hospitalizations continue above the threshold. The area may return to 75 percent capacity in local businesses and re-open bars once the hospitalization rate drops below 15 percent for seven days straight.
