ASPCA Removes 40 Dogs from Overcrowded Home Near San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX – Forty dogs, including several puppies, were removed from a property outside of San Angelo on Tuesday by the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

A press release by ASPCA did not include the location of the operation. However, in an email a spokesperson from ASPCA, noted the organization would not be releasing the pet owners' names or any additional information regarding the location in order to protect the privacy of the parties involved.

The release from the ASCPA says the agency worked with several Texas animal welfare organizations including the Humane Society of North Texas and the Tri-City Animal Shelter & Adoption Center to help with the treatment and placement of the animals recovered. The dogs were immediately transported to the groups in the Fort Worth-area for immediate examination.

According to the release, the pet owners realized they could no longer provide proper care for the animals and agreed to voluntarily surrender them to the ASPCA. Once on scene the animals were found to be living on the property of an overcrowded mobile home in what has been labelled as substandard conditions. The dogs suffered from inadequate access to food and water, as some were also found to be suffering from more serious medical issues that will ultimately require veterinary treatment.

“The ASPCA is pleased to be in a position where we have the expertise and resources to support pet owners in need and improve the lives of animals in communities across the country,” Kyle Held, director of investigations for the ASPCA, said in the release. “While some of these animals will require medical treatment and behavioral rehabilitation, we’re thankful for the Humane Society of North Texas and Tri-City Animal Shelter & Adoption Center for assisting us with this case and we’re thrilled to help prepare these dogs for the next chapter in their lives.”
