COLORADO CITY, TX --The mysterious disappearance of a 37-year-old man has left his family with a lot of questions and virtually no answers.
According to his family back in West Virginia, Rick Hamilton traveled to Pyote, TX to work in the oilfield.
Hamilton's wife, Linda, says she last heard from her husband on July 31st.
With the help of a Dallas private investigator, Greg Johnson, the family discovered Hamilton took a bus to Dallas at the end of July for a quick vacation.
The investigation revealed Hamilton boarded a bus back to Pyote at 7:30 a.m. on July 31.
During the trip, Hamilton called his wife multiple times and became increasingly paranoid.
"He said he didn't feel right. The people on the bus made him uncomfortable," said Linda.
The private investigator was able to determine Hamilton got off the bus at an "unscheduled stop" in Colorado City.
Hamilton's phone data determined he was at the C & C Country Store.
"His other phone had a ping, a Google and a GPS hit in the afternoon of July 31," said Johnson.
Since then, no one has heard from Hamilton. His coworkers confirmed they waited to pick him up at the Pecos bus station, but he never arrived.
"The really unusual thing he had a rather large paycheck waiting for him that he didn't pick it up," said Johnson.
The Hamilton family and Johnson have reached out to law enforcement but have received no answers.
In a statement to local media, the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office confirmed they "are not investigating the disappearance of Rick Hamilton."
Johnson took over the search for free due to the Hamilton's limited resources.
Anyone with information regarding Rick Hamilton's disappearance or current location is asked to contact private investigator Greg Johnson at 469-909-9885.
