San Angelo, TX – A trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a traffic stop on a white 2020 Chrysler van bearing Arizona license plates near the 382 mile marker of US HWY 87 on Sunday evening for a speeding violation just before 7:00 p.m.
During the traffic stop the deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Noemi Olguin-Herrera and her passenger, who was identified as Gloria Mazanarez, along with three undocumented male subjects in the back seat of the vehicle.
According to a report by the trooper, it was noted that he observed numerous signs of attempted human smuggling activity after it was discovered the windows of the vehicle had sun visors pulled down covering them in an attempt to conceal the passengers from the troopers field of vision.
Shortly after Olguin and Manzanarez were both arrested at the scene where they were charged for SMUGGLING OF PERSONS, and held on $50,000.00 in bond.
Following an evidentiary search of the vehicle Manzanarez was also found to be in possession of an undetermined amount of marijuana, so an additional $1,000.00 was added to her bond amount.
On Monday afternoon Olguin and Manzanarez were both released from the Tom Green County Jail at 1:43 p.m.
Additionally, Border Patrol was contacted and a detainer was placed on the three male subjects who were also arrested at the scene.
Although not specified, three male subjects were booked into the Tom Green County Jail with MISC BORDER PATROL HOLD charges on Sunday evening.
These men have been identified as, 21-year-old Wilbur Cruz-Lopez, 21-year-old Manuel Chuli-Mendez, and 30-year-old Cristobal Perez-Deyadar. An origin of nationality has not been specified for any of the three men at this time.
