Central High School Band Plays Final Performance Before State Send Off

The "home" side of the San Angelo Stadium filled with friends, family and fans on Saturday night, when the Central High School Bobcat band took to the field in full regalia for a final performance before heading to the state UIL Competition on Monday.

Over 300 students, ranging from freshmen to seniors, have been practicing intensively since they returned from the area contest in Lubbock on Oct. 25, meeting in the band hall after school each day to rehearse the routine from start to finish, and working on areas in need of fine tuning.

The band played their entire routine on Saturday night in a performance that lasted little over a half hour. The performance served both as a send off for the band, who will be driving up to San Antonio for the state competition to be held in the Alamodome on Nov. 4, and as an opportunity for fans who may have missed the show on Little Bobcat Night to view it in its entirety.

Central's achievement thus far marks the first time a San Angelo marching band has made it to the state competition in 37 years. Once in San Antonio, the Bobcats will be competing against 35 other 6A bands from schools across Texas. [[{"fid":"8832","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default"},"type":"media","attributes":{}}]]

The Bobcats are scheduled to take the field at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. They'll be heading to San Antonio Monday morning at 10:30 a.m., and will begin early on Tuesday morning with practice at a high school before heading to the Alamodome.

The top 10 bands from the competition will compete against each other once again on Tuesday night for the chance to progress to the national competition.
