A major crash on Tuesday that resulted in a six-year-old boy being ambulanced to Community Medical Center was found to have root in the judgement of 26-year-old Jeremy Todd Johnson, who chose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated.
The crash occurred at circa 6:35 p.m. when a silver Dodge Ram pickup and a black passenger car collided in the 4400 block of Knickerbocker. Officers arriving on the scene began to divert traffic as the Fire Department checked on the parties involved in the accident. Both the boy and Johnson were transported to Community Medical Center.
As he began to investigate, Officer D. Welch went to visit the injured parties at the Medical Center, at which time he encountered Jeremy Johnson, whose breath reeked strongly of alcohol. Johnson was informed that Welch was investigating the crash and agreed to a field sobriety test. He failed. Johnson then refused to cooperate any further and was arrested for a DWI.
Because a child had been involved in the crash, Detective Elkins was contacted to further investigate, and obtained a search warrant for blood specimen from Johnson. The toxicology report has not yet been received from the lab, however Johnson has been charged with a Felony DWI.
Johnson and the child suffered only minor injuries
