SAN ANGELO, TX -- Even as banks across the nation closed in observance of Columbus Day, First Financial Bank employees dedicated their day off to help local organizations.
On Monday, First Financial celebrated the 5th Annual Day of Service. For the past five years, employees have dedicated the bank holiday to service local organizations.
This year bank employees donated four hours of their off time to help the following organizations:
- San Angelo Railway Museum/Art in Uncommon Places
- United Way of the Concho Valley Office
- San Angelo Early Childhood Center
- Boys & Girls Clubs- Southside
- Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council
Divided into groups, employees help the highlighted organizations in whatever they require. Volunteers at the Railway Museum got to work deep cleaning and moving a slew of items into storage.
"It is wonderful to give back to the community," said Irma Gonzales. "It's half a day, but it makes a difference."
Employees have the chance to personally help local organizations as they change every year. Previous organizations include YMCA, Salvation Army, and Cassie's Place among others.
"Every year it is a different list of places," said Sam Coyne. "We send out groups of people and do whatever they ask of us."
Any non-profit organization in need to help can contact First Financial Bank during the course of the year and the bank can put together a group for next year's event.
"First Financial Bank is a family of community banks and what we like to do on this day is give back to our local communities that help us," said President Chris Evatt. "This is where we live, this is where we work, and this is where we do business."
