San Angelo Mayor Promises to Never Defund Police

SAN ANGELO, TX – The City of San Angelo held a memorial on Friday to honor those who lost their lives during the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001.

The ceremony began with the presentation of both the Unites States and Texas flags followed by the national anthem performed by San Angelo's own Tammy Merwin. Followed by a prayer from Chaplain Gary Jenkins.

Then Mayor Brenda Gunter gave a speech to the crowd about her thoughts on the terrorist attack. She began by thanking all of the law enforcement including Police Chief Frank Carter and Fire Chief Brian Dunn who were in attendance.

"Most importantly what I want to say is that here in San Angelo I am proud to be the mayor of a city that will always support funding our police department and all of our first responders," said Mayor Gunter. "We cannot over react or react to all of those out there that have chosen to take negative comments and actions towards our first responders. If we don't have law and order in this country, if we don't have law and order in this city we will never have the quality of life I believe our citizens deserve."

The mayor finished the memorial by reading a proclamation written by the City of San Angelo thanking everyone who put their lives on the line on that day and since then.

Thank you Officers of the San Angelo PD and San Angelo FD! As for "Not" reacting to those who make comments derogatory remarks and comments "against " San Angelo PD Officers or for that matter, any Police officers that have proven themselves, I will always react and defend our Police officers. If the law abiding citizens don't take up for Police officers, then who will out there on the streets.
