Suspect Indicted for Shooting After a Go Kart Fight

SAN ANGELO, TX – On August 5, a Tom Green County grand jury indicted 37-year-old Dustin Ray Jackson of San Angelo on the sole charge of Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon which is a second degree felony in the state of Texas that carries a penalty of two to 20 years in prison, and a fine of up to $10,000.

On the evening of June 5, 2020 a verbal alteration occurred between two male individuals at the WFO Motorsports Park off of US HWY 87 North due to the children of the two possibly causing intentional damage to each other's go karts during a race.

Several hours later on the morning of June 6 at approximately 1:49 a.m. Jackson returned to the park and attempted to further confront the victim from outside a perimeter fence. Although the victim didn't retaliate a Tom Green County Patrol Deputy was dispatched to the area in response to the report of an unwanted individual.

When the deputy arrived on scene the victim stated that Jackson had yelled to him from outside the perimeter fence that he would "kill him and rape his wife".

As the deputy continued his report he advised the two that the matter was a civil matter in reference to a monetary payment between both parties, and after some time both individuals were eventually released from the scene.

Some time later around 3:31 a.m. the victim contacted the Tom Green County Dispatch stating that Jackson had shown up at his residence off of Copper Rock Rd and fired a handgun in the victims direction from an area near the roadway.

A different deputy responded to this follow-up call where the victim stated that he returned fire and had shot one round from his handgun toward Jackson in protection of his life.

Indictment reports indicate that during the investigation six .40 caliber bullet casings were recovered in the area where Jackson had discharged his firearm, and a single round was found to have struck a pickup truck which was very close to the area where the victim had been standing at the time of the assault approximately one hundred seventy-five feet from the roadway.

At 4:02 p.m. on the afternoon on June 6, Dustin Ray Jackson was arrested by the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office where he was booked for the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The following morning Jackson was released from the Tom Green County Jail after posting $75,000.00 in bond.

Nearly a month later on August 5 a Tom Green County grand jury indicted Dustin Ray Jackson of San Angelo for the sole charge of Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon which is a second degree felony in the state of Texas that carries a penalty of two to 20 years in prison, and fines not to exceed $10,000.
